miniature Highland Cattle

Miniature Highland Cattle, known as “fluffy cows”, can be found as far back as the 6th century. Highlands are known for their friendly temperament, low stress, never showing aggression, easy to manage, and adorable fluffy, shaggy, coats. Their coats vary in colors from red, black, or white, and consist of a double coat of hair. The outer layer is soft while the undercoat help with tolerance to colder climates.

Highlands understand their social hierarchy within their herd, and do not show aggression towards each other or humans. In fact, they seek affection from humans.

While Highlands can survive on being entirely grass-fed and can survive on roughage and grazing on brush, their diets can include good hay, straw, green deed/silage in the winter, cereal grains, barley, white/corn silage, and peas and turnips. Access to plenty of fresh water is key for their diets as Highland Cattle are amazing scavengers. They will survive on almost anything from poison ivy to vines and tree leaves. They can survive in poor pastures where other cattle would not.
